Bringing Natural Beauty To Your Special Day With Wildflower Wedding Themes

When planning your wedding, it’s important to plan every detail from wedding signs to poems for your wedding vows, but what’s even more important to have a theme which runs through the decor and the clothing of the bridal party in order to give the proceedings a uniform and pleasing aesthetic. There are, of course, unlimited themes to choose from – from the simple one colour theme to the more wacky choices such as Harry Potter or Star Wars. In this article, however, we’re talking about bringing natural beauty to your special day with wildflower wedding themes.

What are wildflowers?

Increasingly popular in the UK, wildflowers are naturally occuring flowers which can be identified by their bright colour and cheerful, small blooms. Known to be pretty as a picture – and great for the environment – wildflowers are a trend which is set to continue through 2024 and beyond.

Wildflowers are easy to grow and come in a wide variety of colours including some stunning pastel shades which lend themselves perfectly to wedding decor.

Wildflower wedding themes

If you fancy adding a bit of wildflower charm to your big day, we’re sharing some themes to help you on your way:

Just a touch of wildflower magic

For those looking to add a subtle touch of wildflower magic to their wedding, there are some great ideas which will allow you to do this without attracting the bee population from miles around and, some of these are:

Elegant motifs

Simple but effective, you can get in on the wildflower action by adding a simple but stunning wildflower motif to your wedding decor, stationery, linens and clothing. As this example shows, it’s possible to infuse your wedding with these delightful flowers without going over the top.

Perfect placement

Similarly, you don’t necessarily have to run the theme throughout your entire wedding. Bowls of wildflowers placed on your wedding tables can add elegance and style and, even better, they tend to be vastly cheaper than other types of floral arrangements when it comes to weddings.

This can also be extended to the bouquets carried by the bride and bridesmaids as well as the groom and groomsmen’s boutonnieres.

A walk on the wild (flower) side

If you prefer to go for a bolder look with your wildflower theme, we’ve got a few ideas for that too:

Red

As we’ve mentioned, wildflowers come in a wide range of colours including some eye popping red shades and, while a red themed wedding might not be everybody’s cup of tea, these shades can be great for making a statement.

Why not try a theme of crisp white with a bold single red wildflower for a wedding aesthetic that won’t be forgotten in a hurry?

Alternatively, a theme made up of multiple tiny red wildflowers can offer the perfect combination of pretty and bold.

Blue

From the palest of pale to deep indigo, blue wildflowers add a classy touch to your big day and will also tick the ‘something blue’ box for the bride !

White

While we tend to think of wildflowers being brightly coloured, that is very much not always the case. Traditionalists may be happy to learn that wildflowers are also widely available in pure white. These can be used by themselves for a clean and beautiful aesthetic or teamed with oh-so-pale pink or blue shades to add depth and interest.

Wildflower wedding bouquets

If you’re considering a wildflower wedding theme, you will, of course, want to include the wedding party flowers including the bouquets for the bride and bridesmaids and the groom and groomsmen’s boutonnieres.

While it is possible to use wildflowers for bouquets, it’s best to mix these with other larger flowers due to the usually small size of most wildflowers. For the best results, you might want to bulk up your bouquets with traditional roses and then use wildflowers to create a contrasting effect.

Wildflower wedding themes – what not to do

If you’ve made it this far, you’ll have seen that we’ve shared tons of great ideas for your wildflower themed wedding and so, it’s only right that we now share a few things to avoid:

Tread carefully with red

We’ve mentioned that red can very much be a great colour for your theme but, as the saying goes, all in moderation. If you’re going with white laced with red wildflowers you’ll want to ensure that your wedding doesn’t end looking like an episode of Dexter. It’s always a really good idea to test run your ideas before committing to them to avoid making an embarrassing mistake.

Don’t get too busy with your wildflowers

Wildflowers can add a burst of pretty pastel colour to your wedding – but try not to get carried away. Going overboard with the wildflower goodness can end up looking chintzy and old fashioned (and not in a good way).

Fresh is best

Although wildflowers can certainly add a really pretty touch to your wedding, they do tend to wilt very quickly – particularly in warm weather. For this reason, you should make sure that your wedding flowers for bouquets and boutonnieres are freshly made on the morning of the wedding. Alternatively, you can now get some really realistic artificial wildflowers which will go the distance on your wedding day.

A beautiful day and memories for a lifetime

A wildflower wedding theme is one which will suit pretty much any time of year – and more importantly, it’s a theme that won’t date too badly. As we’ve mentioned in this article, there are a number of different ways that you can add wildflower magic to your wedding and, if you’re using fresh flowers, don’t forget to have them dried afterwards to preserve them along with your precious memories.
